Workers in Lancashire’s health, social care and VCFSE (Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise) sectors may be better retained and incentivised if given the opportunity to develop their workplace skills through enrolment on to a new, heavily subsidised leadership programme launching this September.
The ten-session Aspiring Leaders in Health and Social Care Skills Bootcamp will run weekly on a Wednesday from 9.30am to 3pm, starting on Wednesday 10th September, with a break for half term.
The bootcamp’s aim is to encourage confidence and give those enrolled the practical tools to motivate and lead teams more effectively, including resolving conflicts, improving communication and initiating new projects.
Anyone aged 19 plus already employed in any of the three sectors, providing they are based in Lancashire, can be put forward for a place, which for their employers are between 80 to 90 per cent fully funded depending on company size (so just £345 per student for a bootcamp place valued at £3,450 for SME employers and £750 for healthcare trusts and other non SMEs).
Nasrullah Anwar, a Leadership Trainer at Community CVS, which is running the bootcamp from its accredited training centre at the Boulevard Centre, Blackburn, said:
“All three of these sectors suffer from staff retainment issues, which for employers is costly, disruptive and de-motivating for everyone.
“To combat the issue, creating a positive, supportive working environment is key and this includes providing training and development opportunities so that staff can see a path to career progression.”
Nasrullah continued:
“We are extremely lucky to have secured government funding to enable us not only to offer the bootcamp but to do so at a heavily subsidised rate. The bootcamp’s programme also includes the option for students to complete a Chartered Institute of Management accredited Level 3 or 5 Award in Management and Leadership at no extra cost.
“Places are limited and are awarded on a first come, first served basis as long as the student eligibility criteria is met. Now is the perfect time for enrolment. Staff are inevitably about to go on annual leave so to offer them a clear career pathway through the bootcamp for their return is a means to securing their comeback and retainment ahead of winter pressures.”
