What is Call for a KIT?
Call for a KIT is a project that helps people understand and complete their bowel cancer screening test.
Who are we?
We are a Bowel Screening Health Promotion Team, managed by Community CVS and funded by NHS England within the NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
What do we do?
- We provide information and support individuals at GP practices where test kit return is low in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
- Share information about bowel screening in English and other languages.
- Help increase participation of bowel cancer screening test kits.
- Deliver training to frontline staff and community groups.
- Attend and deliver events and conferences.
What is bowel screening?
- Bowel screening is a way of testing healthy people to see if they show any early signs of cancer.
- Bowel screening helps to spot bowel cancer before symptoms start, when it’s most treatable.
- The test looks for blood in your poo, which can be a sign of cancer.
- You do the test at home and send it back by post.
- People aged 50 to 74 get a test kit every 2 years.
- If you’re 75 or older, you can still get a test, just call 0800 707 6060.
Why is it important?
- Bowel cancer is common in the UK.
- It can find cancer early, before you feel unwell.
- Taking the test could save your life.
How to get a test kit
- If you’re aged 50 to 74, you’ll get a kit by post every 2 years.
- If you’re aged 75 or over, call 0800 707 6060 to ask for a kit.
- If you do not have a home address, ask your GP to send the kit to the surgery or another address.
How does the kit work?
- The NHS sends you a kit in the post.
- You need to collect a small sample using the kit.
- You will need to send it back in the prepaid envelope.
- Your results will be posted back to you in a few weeks.
