East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust are looking to promote and discuss the work of the Public Participation Panel (PPP) and how they can engage and involve the community.

The PPP was established to ensure that patients and users of services provided by the Trust, their relatives/carers and residents in our local community are involved in the development of services so the Trust can continuously improve the care, experience and services they receive.

At present, the Trust are looking to recruit new members to the group. Members of the PPP can be service users, carers, relatives or from a local voluntary organisation. The Trust are particularly keen that membership of the panel is representative of the wide range of people they care for and who live in the communities they serve. Members of the panel will be registered Trust volunteers.

The Trust are also looking to engage with patients, relatives and carers who are willing to share their story of their experience of ELHT, and would welcome more stories from the communities they serve, particularly those hard to reach groups.

The Trust primarily uses video & audio patient, relative & carer stories that can be shared at meetings and staff training sessions. Patient stories can be both positive or negative and are an invaluable way of helping the Trust to understand the experiences of patients, relatives & carers and the impact of the services they deliver. They want to hear about the experience of patients (good and bad) so they can identify ways to continue to improve services for patients, carers, and staff.

In terms of format, they are keen to have short video/audio stories – usually around seven or eight minutes long – focussing on what was good, what was not so good and what could be done better to improve the patient experience.

If anyone is interested in sharing their patient story of their experience of using ELHT services, the Patient Experience Team would love to hear from them with a brief description of their experience and the services involved. The Team will then get in touch with them for further information and to explain the process etc.

If you would like to share your experiences or know of anyone who might, please feel free to drop the Patient Experience Team an e-mail: –
