It’s the start of National Volunteers Week (1st -7th June) and we are off to a flying start in Darwen.
Denise Hayhurst delivered the Valuing Volunteers Quality Mark workshop at the Jubilee Tower Credit Union. It is the first time Community CVS have presented this workshop in Darwen and judging by the numbers in attendance, we should be holding many more.

This recognised and accredited Quality Mark is a “must” for any group, large or small, in order to demonstrate that they value the contributions that volunteers and how well they are regarded – which is reciprocated by both the volunteer and the community at large. The Quality Mark demonstrates to future funders that the group is well organised and shares the same values that the funder does.
The Valuing Volunteers Quality Mark training covers: –
- Planning for volunteers
- Business planning & financial implications,
- Insurance
- GDPR & Information Commissioner’s Office
- Safer Recruitment – DBS & volunteers with lived experience
- Volunteer Policy template to take away (digital copies also)
- Volunteer Expenses templates to take away (digital copies also)
- Quality Mark self-assessment tool
- Essential & best practice policy templates to take away (digital copies also)
- Sample policies and adaptations
- Additional documentation – volunteer agreement, volunteer handbook
Community CVS also delivers training for volunteers themselves. This covers everything that a volunteer should know about their roles and how they provide value. Basically, what is expected of them and hat they should expect from whoever they are volunteering for.
If any of these interest you, please get in touch with geoff.wilkinson@communitycvs.org.uk if you wish to attend training in Darwen or denise.hayhurst@communitycvs.org.uk if you want to know more about free training in Blackburn.
