Please tell us a little about you/your group:
I work as a Support Worker within the homelessness prevention sector, where my role involves helping individuals who are at risk of losing their accommodation to stabilise their circumstances and work towards long-term independence. My day-to-day responsibilities include providing practical assistance, emotional support, and advocacy, often in fast-paced and challenging environments. The work requires strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to build positive relationships with people who may be experiencing significant distress or instability.
How did you engage with Community CVS?
I engaged with Community CVS through a combination of open communication, structured group activities, and collaborative problem-solving exercises. The sessions encouraged active participation, allowing me to share experiences from my frontline role while learning from others across different sectors. The interactive nature of the training helped create a supportive learning environment where ideas could be discussed openly and practical challenges could be explored collectively.
How did Community CVS help you/your group?
The training offered by Community CVS provided a valuable opportunity for reflection, enabling me to identify areas for both personal and professional development. Through the programme, I gained deeper insight into my own practice and became more aware of how my approaches impact the people I support.
I also developed a stronger understanding of person-centred methodologies, which has helped me adapt my support more effectively to meet individuals’ needs. The course encouraged me to refine my existing skills, broaden my toolkit of approaches, and consider new perspectives when working with vulnerable people.
What impact did this assistance have on you/your group and your work?
The guidance and techniques introduced through the course had an immediate and positive effect on my practice. I was able to apply new communication strategies straight away, improving my interactions with both service users and colleagues. These improvements have contributed to a more collaborative and constructive working environment.
The training has also increased my confidence when dealing with complex or challenging situations. I now feel better equipped to respond calmly and professionally, using evidence-based methods that support effective problem-solving and positive outcomes for the individuals I work with.
Overall, the support from Community CVS has strengthened my ability to deliver high-quality, person-centred support and enhanced my contribution to the wider homelessness prevention team.
