Preston Volunteers are announcing a week of events running from the 3rd until the 7th of June 2024 celebrating volunteers and volunteer organisations in Preston.

There is a full week of events including a large Volunteers Fair on Preston’s Flag Market, to a skill share event, where participants can learn a variety of quick skills from cooking, bike repairing and sowing and crafts. It is all planned in conjunction with National volunteers’ week, which is celebrating its 40th year this year alongside working with our partners at Preston City Council.

The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering, so taking the time during Volunteers’ Week here in Preston to celebrate their efforts and all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole has never been more important.

The event’s to look forward to within the week;

  • Monday 3rd June – Preston volunteers will be celebrating volunteers with a special event at Preston Town hall alongside the mayor with small community groups specially invited.
  • Tuesday 4th June (5pm onwards) – We will be taking over Preston Community Hub, in a unique skills share event where participants will take turns to learn six different skills taught by local community organisations. (Location: Samuel St, Preston PR1 4YE)
  • Wednesday 5th June (2pm Onwards) – We will be hosting a big volunteers fair right in the heart of Preston. With over 20 different organisations highlighting the variety of volunteering opportunities available in Preston – but also the important work these groups do within the community.
  • Thursday 6th June (1pm onwards) – A walk and talk event in Winkley Square, a relaxed event, where we invite people to meet someone new, in the hopefully sunny weather.
  • Friday 7th June (10am Onwards) – Our volunteers coordinator forum, at the Town hall will celebrate the work of volunteering leads in organisations. The forum is open to volunteer’ coordinators and so far, has proved to be a vital networking opportunity.
