We are inviting all the schools in Blackburn with Darwen to enter our competition to design our centrepieces for this year’s Community Volunteer Awards. The awards, which are now in their fifth year, recognise individuals and groups who go the extra mile to make lives better for residents across the borough.

Moving towards a more eco-friendly event instead of purchasing balloons etc., we would like the children of Blackburn with Darwen to create unique centre pieces using recycled items that will be displayed on the night of the event at King George’s Hall, Thursday 2nd November.

This year we have a new Smile award up for grabs for the best environment project this year the centrepiece is the focus. The winners will be invited along to the event to enjoy the evening and receive their award.

The Theme is “Nature” and the centrepiece can be up to 1 metre high and 30cm in diameter – any shape and you can use whatever materials you like. The Colour theme is gold, silver, black and white.

We will need all pieces to be ready for Friday 13th October – on this date we would like you to submit photos of your centre piece for judging on Monday 16th October. Winners will be notified on Tuesday 17th October, in time to arrange guests – teachers and students (ten in total).
