Every day I actually want to get out of bed now because I know I am helping people who need me

This is our social prescribing initiative  – we offer guidance and support to people in the borough to join in ordinary everyday opportunities or groups in their local community to help to improve their mental health and well-being.

I really didn’t think anyone would take me seriously as a volunteer because of my mental health problems. I really wanted to help others who had experienced the same…thanks to Volunteering on prescription I am now booked in for training with a view to helping others. I feel better about me

With well-being and mental health services as well as GP’s in the borough, we provide support to people facing issues including low mood, anxiety, depression and people who who may be:

  • Lacking social networks
  • Have low confidence and self esteem
  • Feel they lack purpose or focus in life
  • Feel they have little or no hobbies/interests/employment

Our peer mentors enable people to improve their mental health through getting involved in their community as a volunteer, or taking part in activities with others in their community.

We are looking to recruit volunteer mentors to provide tailored support to people to motivate them, build confidence, esteem and encourage people to identify their skills and set goals.

If you feel you would benefit from the support we can provide in this project, or if you would like to provide help as a volunteer mentor, please contact Donna Talbot or ring 01254 583957.
