Renaissance – Drug and Alcohol Assertive Outreach Worker

The service currently delivering assertive outreach work across Blackpool, funded by Blackpool council you will work as part of the Horizon outreach team to provide an inclusive and effective service to drug and alcohol using adults, in and out of treatment with combined housing/homelessness issues.

£ 25,472.00 per annum salary (pro rata) – 18.75 hours per week (flexible working requirements)

 Normal working hours will be Monday to Friday; however, all workers are required to work some evenings and weekends to fit in with service delivery.

Fixed term contract until July 31st 2020 with the opportunity to extend the service if further funding applications are successful, the organisation recognises the need for continuation of this valuable service and has a commitment to secure further funding.

The function of Assertive Outreach worker will be to provide intensive, highly coordinated and flexible support for service users with longer term complex needs and with whom services have found it difficult to engage. Most importantly where there are histories such as entrenched substance use, homelessness, sex working, severe and enduring mental illness, physical illness, social chaos, high use of inpatient beds and multiple complex needs. To support the identification and engagement of potential HORIZON substance misuse and sexual health service users, undertaking triage assessments to identify, inform and prioritise the immediate and potential ongoing needs.

To utilise a range of evidence-based harm reduction interventions, such as needle exchange facilities, dry blood spot testing for blood borne viruses and take home naloxone as well as general health coaching.

Do you have a relevant degree and or a comparable DANOS training qualification?  Do you have lived or work experience in working with complex adults? You will require excellent listening, communication, organisational, case working and administrative/IT skills. You will demonstrate an up to date knowledge and understanding of current drug, alcohol and housing services in Blackpool and of substance use related issues. Ideally you will have experience of working with other groups of vulnerable adults. Experience and or knowledge of counselling skills would also be advantageous. You will be able to work in a flexible way and have confidence in individual and group settings.
