COVID-19 – The Prince’s Trust

We know that it’s more important than ever for us to be there for young people. Together, we can help to keep their confidence, motivation and wellbeing levels up during this difficult time and support them to feel positive about the future.

As the health and safety of our young people, volunteers and colleagues are at the heart of everything we do, we wanted to let you know that our Burnley Centre is temporarily closed. However, our army of youth support workers and volunteers will make sure young people have somewhere to turn during this difficult period.

As part of our response to Covid-19, we’ve committed to a five-point Youth Action Plan and launched our Young People Relief Fund:

Our Youth Action Plan

We’ve committed to a new five-point Youth Action Plan which will ensure young people continue to get the support they need from us during this challenging time:

  • Wellbeing: Our army of youth workers and volunteers will provide one to one support for young people over the phone and online, helping those who are struggling to cope with isolation and social distancing
  • Education: We will work with teachers to support pupils who are now not in school, as well as those vulnerable young people still attending
  • Employment: We will deliver structured programmes for young people who don’t have a job to help build their confidence and reskill; and we will work with our partners to train young people to start critical jobs in health care and the supply chain
  • Enterprise: We will provide mentors and support for young people who are self-employed and worried about their future
  • Community: Many young people are already responding to the current situation by volunteering in their local areas. We will grow our youth volunteering network to enable more young people to help their communities, responsibly and safely

There are lots of resources for young people on our website already and we’ll keep adding to these in the weeks ahead. More tools and resources are coming to help young people build their skills and confidence and we’ll also recommend free short courses that can be accessed online very soon.

Our Young People Relief Fund

As part of our response to the current coronavirus emergency, we’ve launched a Young People Relief Fund. The fund will help us to:

  • Help young people who are missing school and college to continue their learning
  • Support young people who are out of work into jobs
  • Give the most vulnerable young people the support they need to cope day-to-day in these anxious and uncertain times

Details about how to donate can be found on our website.

We know that during this challenging time, you’ll have a lot of questions about what we’re doing, as well as how you can be there for young people.

We are constantly updating our website with answers to frequently asked questions as this situation develops. Please also keep talking to your Prince’s Trust contact and get in touch with them if you have any questions.

We are so grateful for your ongoing support and feel confident that together, we will be there for young people in the months ahead.
